Rainfall will continue to increase in southern Bangladesh from Monday, says the Met Office

More showers are in store for the country as the Met Office says the rainfall is likely to increase in some parts from Monday.

“The southwest monsoon winds are currently blowing along the Yangon coast of Myanmar, which may reach the Teknaf coastal area in the next couple of days, leading to a gradual increase in rainfall from Monday onwards in the south,” meteorologist Md Shahinul Islam told the media on Saturday.

“Rainfall will first increase in the south — in Barisal, Khulna and Chittagong. It will also increase in Mymensingh and Sylhet at the same time.

“Then the wind may reach the middle of the country, which will gradually enter India through northern Bangladesh,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Met Office forecast that light to moderate rain or thundershowers, accompanied by temporary gusty wind, was likely to occur at several places in Dhaka, Chittagong, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions, at a few places in Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions, and at one or two places in Khulna and Barisal divisions.

Besides, some areas would see moderately heavy to heavy downpour within 9am on Sunday, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department said in its weather bulletin.

The mild heat wave sweeping over Dhaka, Rajshahi and Khulna divisions and Rangpur, Dinajpur, Nilphamari and Chandpur districts would let up in some of the places, the BMD said.
