Over 8.77 million people of safety net programs under MIS

Parliamentary Standing Committee on Social Welfare Ministry expresses satisfaction over enrolment of most of the beneficiaries

Data of over 8.77 million beneficiaries out of 8.85 million of four social safety net programs under the Ministry of Social Welfare has been included in the government’s management information system (MIS).

The information was revealed at the 11th meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Social Welfare Ministry, presided over by its chairman, Rashed Khan Menon, at parliament.

“Data of nearly 8,775,600 beneficiaries out of 8.85 million has been brought under the Management Information System (MIS) till June 7,” according to an official release of the parliament secretariat Wednesday.

The committee also expressed satisfaction over enrolment of most of the beneficiaries under social safety net programs in MIS and hoped that the data of the rest of beneficiaries would be added to the system as soon as possible.

The committee also recommended inclusion of lawmakers from women’s reserved seats in parliament along with the local lawmakers in the social security program under the ministry.

Various issues including progress of social safety net allowance distribution through government to person (G2P), the decision on Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahiyan Trust (Bangladesh) and ongoing programs of the ministry and its subordinate bodies during the second wave of Covid-19 were discussed at the meeting.

Committee members Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed, its State Minister M Ashraf Ali Khan, Badruddoza Mohammad Farhad Ahmed, Aroma Dutta, Sabnam Jahan, Kazi Kaniz Sultana, and concerned officials also joined the meeting.
