Bangladesh records 40 new deaths, 2,576 new cases as daily infection rate stands at 13.25%
The Covid-19 situation in Bangladesh has taken a turn for the worse as new infections, daily deaths went up with the daily infection rate climbing over 13%.
The country registered 40 deaths from Covid-19 in the 24 hours to Thursday morning. With the latest development, the total number of deaths reached 12,989 in the country.
With 2,576 people testing positive over the same period, the number of total infections rose to 820,395.
With the latest figures, the daily infection rate climbed up to 13.25% from Wednesday’s 12.33%.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) revealed the latest figures on Covid-19 in the country with a press release on Thursday.
Of the 40 deceased – 31 men and nine women – 12 were from Chittagong division; eight each from Dhaka and Rajshahi; six from Khulna; four from Rangpur; and two from Sylhet division.
Of them, 31 patients died in government hospitals, six in private hospitals, and three at home.

Twenty-two of the deceased patients were aged above 60; eight aged between 51 and 60; seven aged between 41 and 50; and one each in the 31-40, 21-30, and below 10 age groups.
So far, 9,350 men (71.98%) and 3,639 women (28.02%) have died from Covid-19 across the country.
Since the beginning, 7,261 people have died in Dhaka division, 2,493 in Chittagong, 755 in Rajshahi, 841 in Khulna, 389 in Barisal, 482 in Sylhet, 501 in Rangpur, and 267 in Mymensingh.
The mortality rate against the total number of cases detected so far stands at 1.58%.
The health authorities said 2,061 people recovered from the disease over the preceding 24 hours.
So far, 759,630 patients – 92.59% – have made full recovery across the country.
As many as 19,447 samples, including the pending ones, were tested in the 510 authorized labs -- government and private -- across the country.

The latest figures show an infection rate of 13.25%. The overall infection rate of the country stands at 13.39%.
Currently, 22,936 people are in isolation and 45,867 are quarantined.
On March 8 last year, health authorities in Bangladesh reported the first three cases of Covid-19, a severe acute respiratory illness caused by a new coronavirus strain which was later named Sars-CoV-2.
The novel coronavirus broke out in China's Wuhan city in late December, 2019 and quickly spread throughout the world, becoming a pandemic in less than three months.
The fast spreading coronavirus has claimed 3,778,163 lives and infected 175,216,068 people across the world till Thursday afternoon, according to Worldometer.
As many as 158,740,771 people have recovered from Covid-19 which has spread to 220 countries and territories across the planet.
