Update : 01 Jul 2021, 02:56 PM

The government has cleared the lists of residential public university students so that they can register to get the Covid-19 vaccine.

These students will now be able to complete the registration process on the Surokkha website -- www.surokkha.gov.bd -- to get the vaccine, said the University Grants Commission (UGC) in a statement on Thursday.

The lists of residential students were sent by all public universities to the Directorate General of Health Services earlier.

According to UGC, more than 100,000 residential students are being included in a database for vaccination.

As of Thursday, the number of students in that database is 112,896, according to Muhammad Jaminur Rahman, the director of UGC's Public University Management Department.

Currently, about 130,000 students live in 220 residential dormitories or halls at all public universities.

Jaminur also said that no decision has been made yet regarding the vaccination of the students of private universities.
