234 new cases also detected at the same time
The Covid-19 unit at the Kushtia General Hospital recorded 17 more deaths in the 24 hours to Wednesday morning.
Of them, 10 had tested positive for Covid-19 while the rest were showing symptoms consistent with the disease, said the hospital’s Administrator Dr MA Momen.
Meanwhile, 234 of the 801 samples tested during the same period also came back as positive, yielding an infection rate of 29.21%.
The hospital is currently providing medical care to 277 Covid-19 positive and symptomatic patients.

The hospital’s Resident Medical Officer Dr Tapas Kumar Sarkar said they were struggling to handle the rising number of Covid-19 patients.
Kushtia district’s Civil Surgeon Dr HM Anwarul Islam said people were roaming the streets disregarding the health safety rules even amid the countrywide strict lockdown, which could worsen the Covid-19 situation further.
So far, 9,432 people have tested positive for the deadly disease in the district, while the death toll stands at 275.
On the other hand, 6,030 people of the district recovered from Covid-19 to date.
