An officer of Dhaka’s Gulshan police died at a Dhaka hospital on Sunday, where he was being treated of injuries sustained after a car hit him on July 4.

Assistant sub-inspector Md Liton was severely injured when a speeding car hit him at a check-post in Dhaka’s Gulshan neighbourhood, said Deputy Commissioner Md Rafiqul Islam of the police’s Gulshan zone.

He said Liton was on duty at the check-post near the Police Plaza shopping mall.

Around 1:30am, he signalled a car to stop, which ran over him, according to the senior police official.

Liton died on Sunday at National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital, where he was undergoing treatment for seven days.

“A few bottles of liquor were also seized from the car. The suspects used to deliver liquor at the bars and clubs,” said Deputy Commissioner Islam.

The police official said a case has been filed in this connection.

Liton, who joined the police in 2002, is survived by his wife and two children.
