With effect until July 19

Banking hours have been extended till 4:00pm from Thursday, with effect until July 19, the last working day before Eid-ul-Azha.

As per a new circular issued by the central bank, now banks will carry out transactions from 10:00am until 4:00pm on Thursday, July 18 and 19 instead of the existing 10:00am to 2:30pm.

Banks can remain open on those days until 6pm for post-transaction activities, the circular also said.

However, it also says that banks will remain open on July 17 and 20 in Dhaka city, Ashulia, Tongi, Gazipur, Samar, Bhaluka, Narayanganj, and Chittagong from 10:00am to 2:00pm to facilitate the payment of salary to the garment and other industry workers and trading of garment export bills.

On those days, banks will be open but no services will be provided outside the areas for the sake of proper management of the clearing system.

After the relaxed directives expire, from July 25 until August 5, banks will be open from 10:00am to 1:30pm for transactions and until 3 pm for post-transaction activities, as the strict lockdown will again resume.

The central bank has asked banks to maintain hygiene rules and operate within a limited capacity in terms of manpower. It also asked bank officials and employees to carry identity cards while traveling to the office during the restrictions.

Banks will have to make arrangements for transportation for their employees during the restrictions.

As per the instructions of BB, card transactions and internet banking services should be kept running, and ATM booths open round the clock with an adequate supply of notes.
