CID to investigate Narayanganj factory fire case

The government formed three probe committees to investigate the fire incident

Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Police will investigate the fire incident at Hashem Foods Limited, a sister concern of Sajeeb Group, in Narayanganj’s Rupganj that killed 52 people.

“CID’s Additional Deputy Inspector General Imam Hossen has been tasked to probe the fire incident case. The CID team will visit the spot on Saturday noon,” said Additional Deputy Police Commissioner Abul Kalam Azad on Friday.

Terming the case sensitive, the police official said all the evidence recovered from the incident must have to be produced for forensic test.

The case has been handed over to the CID for close observation and probe of the case.

Earlier, the government had formed three probe committees to investigate the fire incident.

On July 8, at least 49 workers -- trapped on the third floor with its only exit locked -- died when the massive fire engulfed the factory. Three others succumbed to injuries they sustained after jumping off the six-storey building. Over 50 others were injured in the incident that shook the world.

Eight people, including the owner of Sajeeb Group and his sons, were arrested and remanded in a case filed over the fire incident.
