Three new upazilas in Madaripur, Cox’s Bazar and Sunamganj

The government has decided to form three new upazilas in as many districts, taking the total number of the upazilas to 495 in the country.

They are Dasar in Madaripur district, Eidgaon in Cox’s Bazar and Madhyanagar in Sunamganj, Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam said on Monday.

The decision came at a meeting of the National Implementation Committee for Administrative Reorganisation (NICAR).

The name of Dakshin Sunamganj upazila has been changed to Shantiganj, he said while briefing the media after the weekly Cabinet meeting.

The boundary demarcation of the Dohar municipality in Dhaka has been revised during the meeting, said Cabinet Secretary Islam.

The Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (Shabiprabi) in Sylhet has been included in the city corporation area, he added.
