The division has so far recorded 30,574 cases since March last year
Barisal division logged 25 new Covid-19-related deaths in the past 24 hours between Monday and Tuesday mornings, taking the division’s death toll to 437, according to health officials.
Of them, 16 died at the isolation and Covid-19 wards of Sher-E-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMCH) in Barisal, four in Pirojpur, two each in Patuakhali and Barguna, and one in Jhalakathi, confirmed Dr Basudev Kumar Das, the divisional health director.
During the same period, officials said, 822 new Covid-19 patients were also recorded in the division, which took the total number of cases to 30,574 since the pandemic started in Bangladesh in March last year.
So far, of the total number of patients in the division, 18,286 have recovered and gone home.
Of the fresh Covid-19 cases in the division,293 were identified in the Barisal district alone. So far, this district has recorded 12,977 cases.
According to SBMCH authorities, 46 more patients were admitted to the hospital’s isolation and Covid-19 wards between Monday and Tuesday mornings.
Some 257 Covid-19 patients are also currently undergoing treatment at the Covid-19 and isolation wards.
Hospital sources also confirmed that with the 16 latest deaths, 745 people showing Covid-19 symptoms died at the isolation ward of SBMCH and 288 confirmed patients died at the Covid-19 ward.
The Covid-19 test results of 82 out of the 745 deceased are yet to come back.
