Covid-19: 16 more deaths reported in Barisal division

738 new cases detected in the last 24 hours till Friday morning

Sixteen more people have died from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours in Barisal division. Of them, eight people died with only symptoms. 

With the latest tally in, the total death toll in the division now stands at 461, divisional Health Director Dr Basudeb Kumar Das said on Friday. 

In the 24 hours till Friday morning, 738 new cases were detected in six districts under the division, raising the Covid caseload in Barisal to 32,822. 

Among the deceased, 12 were undergoing treatment at the Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMCH). 

Of the deceased who had tested positive for Covid, five were from Patuakhali, two from Pirojpur, and one from Barguna. 

Of the new cases, 231 were diagnosed in Barisal district,123 in Patuakhali, 143 in Bhola, 84 in Pirojpur, 82 in Barguna, and 75 in Jhalakathi. 

In the last 24 hours till Friday morning, 29 patients were admitted at the Covid isolation ward of SBCMH, while 24 more were admitted at the hospital’s Covid ward.

The rt-PCR lab in the SBMCH tested 192 samples during the same period of time, with a test positivity rate of 42.7%.
