She was seen smiling and waving to the crowd while being arrested

Businessperson Helena Jahangir, who was recently dismissed from her post in the ruling Awami League, and sued in three cases, was an ultimate fame seeker, says RAB.

Commander Khandaker Al Moin, director of Legal and Media Wing of RAB disclosed the information to reporters on Saturday at the headquarters of the agency.

“We have found several photographs of different higher ups of the state with her. Also, screenshots of conversations were spread and trolled on social media platforms. As part of her wish of going viral, her cyber team consisting up to 20 members intentionally spread the evidences mocking herself,” the RAB official said.

Quoting Helena, Al Moin said, she was new in politics and wanted to be viral. Her main intention was that all the people of the country would know her.

She lied, spread propaganda and confusion against important persons of the state in social media, RAB claimed.

While RAB arrested Helena from her Gulshan 2 residence on early Friday, she was smiling and moving her hands in front of cameras like she was greeting her fans.

Helena claimed to RAB that people of Sunamganj named her Polli Mata (Mother of village), those who got job from her connections, named her “Mother Teresa” and the expatriates named her Probasi Mata (Mother of Expatriates).

However, the elite force found that her cyber team spread these propagandas identifying her in different names, Al Moin said.

RAB found out that Helena has connections with Sefuda [Sefat Ullah], who is highly known on social media for his indecent remarks. Helena has made financial transactions with him as well.

Accused in 3 cases

She was placed on a three-day remand on Friday in a case filed under the Digital Security Act (DSA) with Gulshan police station.

She is also charged with Narcotics Control act, Wildlife Act, the Special Powers Act in another case in Gulshan police station and charged under the Telecommunications Act with Pallabi police station.

Rab-1 filed both the Gulshan cases and RAB-4 filed the Pallabi case.

‘Chakrijibi League’

So far, many people shared Helena’s controversial “Chakrijibi League” poster where she was the self-proclaimed chief of the so-called organization and shared many pictures with VIPs of the state.

On July 25, Helana lost membership of the Awami League subcommittee on women affairs for her involvement with Bangladesh Awami Chakrijibi League, an organization with no affiliation with the ruling party.

She was also removed from the advisor post of the Comilla district unit Awami League.

“She said that mass people don’t know many ministers of the country but they know her,” Al Moin said.

Illegal Joyjatra TV

The Joyjatra IP TV which is operational from 2018, could not pay its employees rather took money from them.

She recruited her illegal IP TV agent and local correspondents in districts level and in abroad specially in middle-east, in exchange of money.

She was collecting subscription money ranging from Tk10,000 to Tk100,000 every month from the local correspondents who in turn collected the money by extorting the public.

One of the local correspondents was arrested by police for extorting money, the RAB spokesperson explained.

The IP TV was also unlicensed, since when she applied for licensing Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) noticed the organization was using equipment that needed permission or license to use.

“She did not have that, so BTRC seized the equipment,” said Al Moin.

She collected money for her organization “Joyjatra Foundation” by blackmailing several people, which the RAB started investigating into.

Owns at least 5 garments, 17 apartments

During initial investigation, Helena confessed to RAB that she owned at least five garments in Narayanganj and has 17 flats in Uttara, Mirpur and Gulshan areas of the capital, Al Moin revealed adding that there could be more.

Helena is a director of Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI), and chairperson of Joyjatra IPTV. Moreover, she is affiliated with at least seven organizations and over a dozen clubs.

Helen’s husband was a garments employee in 1990. From then she entered into the garments sector, Al Moin added.

Foreign liquor, casino equipment, deerskin, and foreign currency recovered from residence

Jessia Alam, daughter of Helena Jahangir, told a satellite television on Thursday night that the seized foreign liquor, casino equipment, deerskin, and foreign currency were all legal.

Jessia claimed that the foreign liquors were his brother’s collection, and that her brother had a license to consume liquors.

Regarding the casino equipment, she said they used them to play various card games at home. They had no board or machine to operate a casino.

She also claimed the deerskin was a gift to her mother from her political circle.

Regarding foreign currencies, she said that those were left unspent from various foreign trips as they regularly visit abroad.
