The Rapid Action Battalion says it is preparing to start several cases against Dhallywood actor Pori Moni after taking her into custody following a raid on her home in Dhaka’s Banani on Wednesday.
Hours later, the elite police unit also detained movie producer Nazrul Islam Raz in a similar raid at his him in the same upscale neighbourhood.

RAB Additional Director General (Operations) Colonel KM Azad told Dhaka Tribune that preparations were underway to start multiple cases against them under the Narcotics Control Act.
“The documents are being checked. They could also be prosecuted under the Digital Security Act,” he said.

They were detained on “specific charges”, said ASP ANM Imran Khan, a spokesman for the RAB, as both Pori Moni and Raz were taken to the law-enforcing agency’s headquarters in Uttara.
RAB is likely to hold a press briefing around 4:30pm on Thursday over the detention of the actor, said Khan, an assistant director of RAB Legal and Media wing.
During the raids, RAB said they recovered 30 bottles of foreign liquor and some blotting papers that are used to distribute LSD, a hallucinogenic drug, from Pori Moni’ house and illegal items including drugs from Raz’s house.

Pori Moni, whose real name is Samsunnahar Smriti, came to light in June after demanding justice in a Facebook live for the alleged torture on her at Dhaka Boat Club on June 8.
On June 14, she filed a case against businessperson and former Uttara Club president Nasir U Mahmood and five others on charges of attempted rape and murder.

Following this, law enforcers arrested Nasir U Mahmood, who later claimed that Pori Moni and her companions had been in a drunken state on that night.
On June 16, All Community Club President KM Alamgir alleged that Pori Moni and her friends had rampaged at the club late on June 7.
