The detectives allegedly looted 20 gold bars worth more than Tk1 crore from the Chittagong-based businessman
Police have arrested six officials of the Detective Branch (DB) on charge of robbing a gold businessman in Feni.
An inspector, three sub-inspectors and two assistant sub-inspectors were arrested with 15 gold bars in their possession on Tuesday, confirmed Feni Superintendent of Police (SP) Khandakar Nur Un Nabi.
The detectives are Feni DB Officer-in-Charge Inspector Saiful Islam, sub-inspectors Mizanur Rahman, Motaher Hossain and Nurul Haque, and assistant sub-inspectors Avijit Roy and Masud Rana, according to media reports.
SP Nur Un Nabi said they made the arrests after Chittagong-based businessman Gopal Kanto Das filed a written complaint with the police.
On Sunday, Das was travelling to Dhaka from Chittagong when he was stopped at the DB police checkpoint near Star Line Filling Station on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway, said SP Nabi.
He added that the officials searched Das and forcibly took 20 gold bars worth Tk1.27 crore from him, which is why he lodged the complaint.
