'Sheikh Hasina's government does not believe in strangling the media'
Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim on Friday said the state would benefit if the country’s media is developed.
"Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken various steps for development of the media and journalists, as she realized that the state would benefit if the media is developed," he said.
He made the remarks as the chief guest at the Prime Minister's Special Financial Assistance Check Distribution for Coronavirus (Phase II) affected journalists from the Bangladesh Journalist Welfare Trust at Pirojpur Circuit House Auditorium, said a press release.
"During the Covid-19 period, Sheikh Hasina has expanded the scope of social security. She has included people from different walks of life in the safety net and, as they are front-line fighters, she attaches great importance to media journalists," the minister said.

"Sheikh Hasina's government doesn't believe in the tendency of strangling the media, as constructive criticism from the media helps us to move forward," he added.
The minister further said it is important to publish objective news, and not news that is meant to defame people.
Pirojpur Deputy Commissioner Abu Ali Mohammad Sajjad Hossain presided over the function, while Pirojpur Superintendent of Police Mohammad Saidur Rahman and Pirojpur Press Club convener Gautam Narayan Roy Chowdhury were present as special guests.
Among others, Central Juba League member Kamruzzaman Khan Shamim, Pirojpur District Juba League President Akhtaruzzaman Fulu and General Secretary Ziaul Ahsan Gazi, and former leaders of Pirojpur Press Club were present on the occasion.
Earlier, the minister took part in a tree planting program organized by Pirojpur District Jail Authority on the occasion of Mujib Year and the Golden Jubilee of Independence.
