The owners of the online platform stand accused of embezzling Tk1,100 crore
A Dhaka court has approved a five-day remand for three people, including two owners of online marketplace E-orange, on charges of embezzling Tk1,100 crore from consumers.
Metropolitan Magistrate Morshed Al Mamun Bhuyan passed the order after Gulshan Police Inspector Md Aminul Islam produced them in court with a 10-day remand petition on Monday.

The court also rejected bail pleas of E-orange owners Sonia Mehjabin, her husband Masukur Rahman and the company’s Chief Operating Officer (COO) Amanullah.
On August 19, police arrested the company’s Amanullah in connection to an embezzlement case filed with Gulshan Police on August 16.
The owners, Sonia Mehjabin and her husband Masukur Rahman who had surrendered in front of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court, were sent to jail after a rejected bail plea on August 17.

According to the case details, one of the consumers, Taherul Islam fearing that the owners would flee the country, filed a case against the online marketplace along with 37 others who testified against them.
Md Taherul Islam, like many others had ordered products from the online platform and despite paying in advance they neither received the products nor refunds
According to the consumer the gift vouchers issued by the platform were also not redeemable.
