Rear Admiral Ashraful Haque Chowdhury has taken charge as the 13th Director General (DG) of Bangladesh Coast Guard, the maritime law enforcement force under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Lt Commander Amirul Haque, media officer at Bangladesh Coast Guard headquarters, confirmed the incident via a media statement on Tuesday.
Earlier, an order was issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on August 17 appointing him as the new chief of the Bangladesh Coast Guard.

Ashraful was commissionedin the executive branch of the Navy on January 1 in 1988, the statement said.
He served as an observer of UN peacekeeping missions in Sudan.
He was promoted to the rank of Rear Admiral on February 7 in 2021 and prior to being DG, he was the commander of Khulna naval region.
