Biman pilot Captain Nawshad on life support

He suffered a heart attack mid-air on Friday

The national airline’s pilot Captain Nawshad Ataul Quaiyum is now on life support at Hope Hospital, Nagpur of India.

However, the authorities of Hope Hospital informed individuals  concerned that he is clinically dead, captain Shoaib Chowdhury told Dhaka Tribune on Sunday afternoon.

Bangladesh Airline Pilots' Association (BAPA) President captain Mahbubur Rahman said: "An emergency medical board was formed [for the treatment of pilot Nawshad] and they said the captain is now under ventilator support. They are waiting for his family members to remove the inhaling exhaling support.”

However, the Biman spokesperson, Tahera Khondoker, said they did not get any such news. So far, he is in in a coma and is being monitored by a medical team at Nagpur, she added.

The Dhaka-bound Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight from Muscat (BG 022) made an emergency landing at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport in India’s state of Maharashtra on Friday when pilot captain Nawshad Quaiyum suffered a heart attack mid-air.

Immediately after landing, the ailing pilot captain was sent to Kingsway Hospitals in Nagpur.

The Biman flight (BG-022), which made the emergency landing at Nagpur airport had departed for Dhaka on the same night with all of its 124 passengers.
