Awami League has nominated Dr Pran Gopal Datta, former vice chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Medical University (BSMMU), for the Comilla 7 by-polls.
The ruling party’s parliamentary board decided to give Dr Datta the nomination during a meeting chaired by party President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Ganabhaban.
Barrister Biplab Barua, office secretary of Awami League, confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune on Saturday.

Awami League also picked its candidates for the by-elections in nine upazilas and by-polls in Godagari Municipality in Rajshahi and a Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) ward.

Meanwhile, the ruling party has announced its candidates for contesting by-elections in two municipalities.
They are Ayez Uddin Biswas for the Godagari Municipality of the Rajshahi division, and Mohammad Ziaul Haque of No 73 ward of the DSCC.

As per the Election Commission (EC), the deadline for the submission of nominations is September 13, while the date for the scrutiny of nomination papers is September 14 and the last date for the withdrawal of candidature is September 19.
