Court orders PBI to investigate case
A 32-year-old school teacher on Wednesday filed a case against a deputy secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs on charges of raping her on the pretext of a false promise of marriage.
After recording the statement of the complainant, Judge Muhammad Habibur Rahman Siddique of Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-2 ordered the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to investigate the case and submit a report before the court by September 30.
The accused was identified as Dr Sanjay Chakroborty, project director at the Jail Training Academy in Rajshahi.
According to the case file, the school teacher met Sanjay Chakroborty on social media in 2018.
Chakroborty had sexual intercourse with her from April 2019 to late 2020 by promising to marry her, she claimed.
Later, when she asked him about marriage on December 22, 2020, he told her that he would not marry her.
The complainant also alleged that she had received threats from the education officer of Sreenagar upazila, warning her to stop contacting Sanjay Chakroborty.
The school teacher said she had waited to file a case till now due to fear of facing social stigma.
