Armed men reportedly open fire at bus on the road to Rangamati

Two women were injured after unidentified armed men reportedly opened fire at a bus on the Rangamati-Bandarban road, say police.

The incident was reported from the road’s Golachipa area on Saturday evening, said Bandarban Sadar Police OC Md Shahidul Islam.

The injured, Yaisinu Marma and Mehaising Marma, are currently being treated at Christian Hospital Chandraghona in Rangamati’s Kaptai.

According to the witnesses, armed men fired around 150 rounds at the Rangamati-bound bus carrying 19 passengers, when it reached the Golachipa area.

The injured passengers were given primary care before being moved to the hospital while the remaining passengers took shelter at Bangalhalia Bazar, they said.

The situation is currently under control and army troops are patrolling the area, OC Islam said.
