The donation follows in the wake of religious and racial minority organizations demanding a commission and laws to end discrimination
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday donated Tk3 crore to Hindu Kalyan Trust on the occasion of Durga Puja.
Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary Dr Ahmad Kaikaus handed over a check for the financial assistance to secretary of the Trust Dr Dilip Kumar Ghosh at the Prime Minister Office, reports UNB.
Earlier on Thursday, an alliance of 24 religious and racial minority organizations demanded that the government form a national commission and protection law to end discrimination and violence.
During a press conference at the National Press Club, leaders of the alliance deplored the condition of minorities in Bangladesh and urged the Awami League to fulfil promises made before the 11th general election in 2018.
Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Oikya Parishad leader advocate Rana Dashgupta, Bangladesh Puja Udjapon Parishad President Milan Kanti Datta, former lawmaker Ushaton Talukder, and President of Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJSS) Jyotirindra Bodhipriya Larma alias Santu Larma were present at the press conference, among others.
The leaders also demanded separate land commissions for the minorities of the plains and the hills, and implementation of the Vested Property Return Act.
They said the alliance would declare a long march to Dhaka in February next year if their demands were not met.
