Garment worker gang-raped in Chittagong

The rape survivor filed a case against the perpetrators on the same night of the incident

Four men reportedly gang-raped a 21-year-old garment worker, while she was visiting her colleague’s house, in Fatikchhari upazila of Chittagong on Monday.

Police conducted a drive at the area and arrested one of the accused on Monday night, said Bhujpur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ashab Uddin.

The arrestee is Arif Hossain, 25, of the Dantmara union of Fatikchhari upazila of Chittagong.

The other three accused are Nur Mia Alias Manu Mia, 25, Md Zakir Hossain, 35, and Zakir Hossain Alias Mahibul, 22.

According to the case statement, the girl visited a colleague's house at the Henyako area of Fatikchhari upazila on September 10. A romantic relationship had developed between the arrestee and the survivor.

On Monday, Arif asked the woman to come meet him. He then took the woman to a rubber garden where he, along with three others, allegedly raped her.

Following this, the rape survivor filed a case against four men with the Bhujpur police station.

She was sent for medical examination after the filing of the report, said the police OC.

Efforts are being made to arrest the rest of the accused, he added.
