Officials suspect that the 6-year-old white lion died of a heatstroke
A white lion died at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Safari Park in Gazipur on Friday.
Assistant Forest Conservator Tabibur Rahman, who is in charge of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Safari Park, confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune on Saturday.
He said: “The six-year-old white lion, which was born at the park from crossbreeding, died on Friday afternoon.
“Our vets conducted an autopsy that indicated that the male lion died of heatstroke. The lion was later buried inside the park."
“There was a lot of fat in the body of the lion but its liver and kidneys were found to be in normal condition. Besides no injury marks were found on its body,” added Tabibur.
The samples collected from the animal will be sent to Dhaka for further examination to find the exact cause of death.
Another lion also fell sick at the park due to extreme heat.
"It's currently undergoing treatment at a local vet hospital," the officer said.
The safari park is now left with only 10 white lions.
