Teenager commits suicide over arguments with mother

A teenager has committed suicide after arguments with his mother in the capital’s Jatrabari area.

The deceased has been identified as Tariqul Islam, 16, son of Sohel Akandh of Daulatpur upazila in Khulna. 

The family used to live in Kazir Gao road in Shonir Akhra. Tariqul was the older of two siblings and his father worked at a car workshop.

Shopna Begum, the teenager’s mother, said Tariqul used to study at a madrasa but lately he had not been attending classes.

“So, we got him engaged in some work. However, he did not go to work either. That is why I rebuked him,” the mother continued.

He then hanged himself from the ceiling fan by using a scarf. With the help of neighbours the family got him down and took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the doctor on duty pronounced him dead.

DMCH police outpost OC Md Bacchu Mia confirmed the matter and said the body had been sent to the hospital morgue. The police station concerned had been informed of the incident, he added.
