He emphasizes the importance of the Right to Information Act

State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Swapan Bhattacharjee has said that he could not complete the registration of a land as he refused to bribe anyone.

He said: “In the government offices, it’s written everywhere ‘Me and my office are corruption free.’ Even if anyone else believes this, I don't, because, despite being a state minister, I failed to register a piece of land in my son’s name a week ago as I did not pay the bribe.

“They should not mislead people with such signboards. No one should be given false information.”

The state minister made the remarks while addressing a public awareness conference with public representatives and students at the Manirampur upazila parishad premises in Jessore on Wednesday.

He said all the laws relating to public welfare in the country had been enacted during the tenure of the Awami League.

The post-independence constitution of Bangabandhu also outlined a non-discriminatory state system. Bangabandhu’s daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had been working for the welfare of the people of the country. As part of this, the Right to Information Act was gifted to the people in 2009 and people were benefiting from it, he added.

The event, organized by Management and Resources Development Initiative (MRDI), was presided over by the organization’s Khulna region Coordinator Mobinul Islam Mobin.

Executive Director of the organization Hasibur Rahman Mukur, Mayor of Manirampur Municipality Kazi Mahmudul Hasan, Upazila Executive Officer Syed Zakir Hossain and others were present.
