The list for closing down unregistered news portals will soon be given to BTRC, the minister says
Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud has said all unauthorized news portals would be shut down in phases.
The list for closing down unregistered news portals will soon be given to Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), he added.
The minister said this while unveiling a book on the life of the prime minister and exchanging views with journalists at the meeting room of the Information Ministry on Thursday.

“Earlier, BTRC had shut down many online portals, including registered and government web portals. It happened due to a misunderstanding and has been resolved already. We will soon send BTRC a list of all the online portals that need to be shut down,” said the minister.
Approval of online portals is an ongoing process. Online portals that actually act in an abominable manner or are not conducted for honest purposes — spread rumours or false news — will continue to be shut down, he added.
