The People for Animal Welfare (PAW) Foundation is going to award 10 people with its “Pranobik Bondhu” Award 2021, first time in Bangladesh, in recognition of their enduring love for animals on World Animal Day Monday.
The recipients are rescue worker Md Abu Bakar Siddik, Sudha Rani, Gracy Puspita Sarkar, veterinarian Dr Fatiha Emnoor Eima, journalist Probir Kumar Sarker, veterinary teacher Prof Nitish Chandra Debnath, public health expert Dr Be-Nazir Ahmed, forest official Mollah Rezaul Karim, DNCC Mayor Md Atiqul Islam and actor Jaya Ahsan.
Photographer Reshad Kamal will be accorded a posthumous award, according to a press release.
Due to the Covid-19 situation and limited time, PAW Foundation will hold the prize-giving ceremony in November.
The “Pranobik Bondhu” award will be handed out to 10 people from all walks of life working for animal welfare every year from now on.
“Many people working for the betterment of animals shy away from the limelight. We would like to show our appreciation to them for their continued involvement in and contribution to the animal welfare movement,” PAW Foundation said.
World Animal Day is an international day of action for animal rights and welfare celebrated annually on October 4, the feast day of Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals and ecology.
