Quader: Carpeting on Padma Bridge to begin in November

Overall progress of the project at 88%, he says

Road Transport and Bridges Minister and Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Sunday said the carpeting work on the main structure of the Padma Bridge would begin in the first week of November.

He made the remark while addressing a ceremony to hand over lease deeds for allocation of plots to those affected by Padma Multipurpose Bridge Project at rehabilitation sites.

Noting that Padma Bridge would be opened for vehicular movement by June 2022, Quader said the progress of the main structure of the bridge is now at around 95% while progress of river training stood at 85.25%.

The overall progress of Padma Bridge construction project is at 88%, he added.

He said seven rehabilitation sites have been constructed at either end of Padma Bridge. Of a total 3,011 residential plots at the rehabilitation sites, 2,963 plots have been allotted, so far, including 814 allotted free of cost to people without land.

On the other hand, 81 out of a total 100 commercial plots have been allocated, while 72 out of 120 commercial spaces have been allotted, he said.

Quader said among registered 823 lease deeds, 20 were handed over to the affected on Sunday.

Every affected individual will get an allocation in phases and no one will be deprived, he said.

Bridges Division Secretary Md. Abu Bakr Siddique chaired the function while Munshiganj-2 constituency lawmaker Sagufta Yasmin Emily, Chief Coordinator of ESST (Engg Support & Safety Team) Major General FM Zahid Hossain, Brigadier General Md Kamrul Hasan, and Padma Multipurpose Bridge Project Director Md Shafiqul Islam were in attendance, among others.
