Government providing uninterrupted satellite services for the last two years, claims the minister

Telecommunications and ICT Minister Mustafa Jabbar has said that the second communication satellite of the country, Bangabandhu Satellite-2, will be launched within the stipulated time.

"The Posts and Telecommunications Division has started implementing the three promises which were made in the election manifesto [of the Awami League]. These will be completed within the stipulated time," he said.

The two other pledges were launching of 5G networks and establishing the connection of the third submarine cable.

The minister said these while speaking at a discussion organized by Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited (BSCL) at a hotel in Dhaka on Thursday night to mark the second anniversary of the launch of private satellite TV channels through Bangabandhu Satellite 1, the first communication satellite of the country.

"With 'Bangabandhu-1', Bangladesh became the 57th country to launch a geostationary communication satellite into orbit," he said, adding that the government is providing uninterrupted satellite services to the country in the last two years without any flaws.

Bangabandhu-1 was launched in orbit on May 12, 2018, and went into trial transmission on September 4 the same year. Its first broadcast was the South Asian Football Federation (Saff) Championship on state-owned Bangladesh Television (BTV).
