Infection rate jumps to 37.39%
Chittagong district reported record-high 821 Covid cases on Sunday.
The new cases were detected after testing 2,174 samples.
The daily infection rate in the port district stood at 37.39% – the highest figure recorded since March last year.
With the latest development, the district’s total caseload reached 65,889 this morning.
Nine more people have also died from the infectious disease during the same period.
With the new figures, the number of fatalities reached 780 in the district, confirmed Chittagong Civil Surgeon Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi.
“The infection rate is increasing rapidly while recoveries are on the decline,” he said.
Of the new patients, 527 are from Chittagong city and 294 from different upazilas of the district.
Among the reported fatalities, 500 were residents of the port city and the rest 280 were from different upazilas of the district, he said.
The civil surgeon told that among the total infected people, 50,621 are residents of the port city and the rest 15,168 are from different upazilas.
“The number of cured patients from the lethal virus stood at 51,102 in the district,” Dr Rabbi said, adding that the percentage of recovery rate currently stands at 77.56%.
A total of 6,650 infected patients are now undergoing treatment at designated hospitals in Chittagong, the health official added.
