Buses will be able to operate from 6am to 6pm
Public transport will be allowed to operate in Dhaka and other city corporation areas from Wednesday amid the countrywide lockdown to stem the spread of the virus.
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader told the media on Tuesday that bus services in the cities will be available from 6am to 6pm.
However, no transport will be allowed to enter or leave the cities, he said.
"The move comes as officegoers and the general people are suffering due to the closure of public transport," Quader added.
Long-haul bus services will remain suspended until further notice, he added.
Public transport services will operate in Dhaka, Chittagong, Gazipur, Narayanganj, Comilla, Rajshahi, Khulna, Sylhet, Barisal, Rangpur and Mymensingh city corporation areas, according to a statement by the Road Transport Ministry.
However, buses will have to operate at half their capacity and maintain health safety rules, it said.
At the beginning and end of every trip, the bus should be disinfected and the persons involved in transport and passengers must wear mask and use hand sanitizers, according to the statement.
The government had banned public transports for seven days as the lockdown started on Monday. Office-goers have suffered the most due to the closure of public transports.
