Oman suspends flights from Bangladesh, India, Pakistan

Oman on Wednesday decided to restrict flights from Bangladesh starting from 6pm Saturday, Oman’s Supreme Committee to deal with Covid-19 has announced.

The Sultanate of Oman would also restrict travel from other South Asian countries, such as, India and Pakistan from April 24, 2021, as part of their efforts to contain the Covid-19 pandemic, reports Times of Oman.

The three nations were added to the list of countries barred from travelling to the Sultanate, and the notice is scheduled to be in place until further notice.

The decision was announced by the Supreme Committee to stop the spread of Covid-19 in the Sultanate of Oman.

Omani citizens, diplomats, health workers, and their families have been kept out of the flight restrictions. Groups excluded from the travel ban however would need to follow the necessary Covid-19 procedures on arrival into the country.

Bangladesh has been running special flights to Oman and four other countries to allow migrant workers to return to work amid the lockdown.

The country has been under lockdown since April 7 as it battles the second wave of coronavirus crisis.

Other passenger international flights to and from Bangladesh have been suspended till the end of the lockdown, till 11:59pm of April 28.

Meanwhile, cargo, chartered flights and air ambulance are allowed to operate.
