The accused persons embezzled Tk159.95 crore, misusing their power
On Monday, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) approved a charge sheet against five people, including the former chairman of Farmers Bank Limited (FBL) audit committee Mahbubul Haque Chisty, on charges of misappropriating around Tk160 crore.
ACC spokesperson Pranab Kumar Bhatacharya said the anti-graft body approved the charge sheet against the five accused in a graft case, at its regular meeting on Monday, reports UNB.
The accused persons embezzled Tk159.95 crore, misusing their power.
ACC Deputy Director Mohammad Shamsul Alam, investigating officer of the case, will submit the charge sheet to the court, he said.
Under the Money Laundering Act, Shamsul Alam filed the case against the accused, with Gulshan police station on April 10, 2018.
According to case documents, the accused, in collaboration with bank officials, opened 25 accounts at different branches of the bank in the names of their family members and respective organizations.
The others accused are: Chisty's wife, Ruzi, and his son Rashedul Haque, FBL Senior Vice President Zia Uddin Ahmed, and first president of Bakshiganj branch in Kamalapur (currently discharged), Muhammad Masudur Rahman Khan.
