DIG prisons Partha Gopal suspended

On July 29, a Dhaka court sent DIG prison Partha to jail in a money laundering case

The Home Ministry has suspended Sylhet Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Prisons Partha Gopal Banik, who is now in jail on charges of corruption and other irregularities.

The suspension was announced through a ministry circular released on Thursday.

Sylhet Senior Jail Superintendent Mohammad Abdul Jalil confirmed the suspension to Dhaka Tribune.

On July 29, a Dhaka court sent DIG prison Partha to jail in a money laundering case filed against him by the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC).

On July 28, the ACC arrested Partha from his residence in Dhaka’s Green Road area after being quizzed by the anti-graft watchdog.

The arrest came after a drive conducted at his residence which resulted in the seizure of Tk80 lakh, the source of which could not be determined.

Partha was allegedly involved in corruption and other irregularities while serving as DIG (Prisons) of Chittagong Range.
