The University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh has decided to make its secretary, Dr Md Khaled, an officer on special duty (OSD) over graft allegations.
UGC member Prof Muhammad Alamgir confirmed the matter on Wednesday.
Parvez Gazi, personal secretary to Khaled, told Dhaka Tribune: “We came to know about the matter through media, but we have not yet received any letter from the authority.”
Another UGC Member Prof Dil Afroz Begum said: “The decision to make the UGC secretary an OSD was taken at a meeting of the commission, chaired by UGC Chairman Prof Kazi Shahidullah on Tuesday.”
According to officials familiar with the matter, Khaled had served as the secretary of a committee responsible for overseeing the recruitment of assistant directors for the commission, without disclosing the fact that his daughter was one of the candidates.

“The order of making him OSD is yet to be signed by the UGC chairman, which will later be uploaded on the UGC website next Sunday.” she added.
UGC member Md Akhtar Hossain, Prof M Shah Nawaz Ali, Prof Dil Afroza Begum, Prof Muhammad Alamgir, Prof Md Sajjad Hossain and Planning Commission acting secretary Abul Kalam Azad, among others, were present at Tuesday’s meeting.
