The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has summoned Shamimuzzaman Kanchan, owner of Jadid Automobiles, for questioning in connection with its investigation into the substandard N95 mask and PPE scam case.

ACC Director (Public Relations) Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya confirmed the matter on Thursday.

The ACC issued a letter, signed by its Director Mir Mohammad Zainul Abedin Shibli, in this regard on Wednesday.

At the same time, the anti-graft commission also summoned file records of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) and the Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA) in connection with the investigation.

Shamimuzzaman has been asked to appear before the ACC on September 9 for interrogation.

According to the letter, the commission is investigating the N95 mask and PPE scam in the health sector.

“In this response of proper investigation, it is necessary to hear and need the statement of Shamimuzzaman Kanchan,” the letter said.

“Therefore, he has been requested to appear to give his statement on the complaint along with the relevant records. If he fails to appear on time, it will be deemed that he has no statement regarding the complaint,” ACC letter clarified.

On the other hand, a separate letter has been sent to DGHS and DGDA asking for records file and agreement letter with Jadid Automobiles by September 8.

On June 18, ACC launched an investigation into allegations of corruption in the purchase of masks and other health-care products.

On August 12, the commission interrogated former director general (DG) of the DGHS Prof Abul Kalam Azad in connection with the case.

However, the former DGHS chief in a statement denied any involvement with these irregularities and said he only followed directions sent from the Health Ministry.

Earlier on July 15, ACC raided the DGHS office and seized documents related to the Regent Hospital's Memorandum of Undertaking (MoU) to check its hospital license. The commission has found inconsistencies in the MoU.
