ACC summons 12 DGHS officials for interrogation

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has summoned 12 officials of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) to interrogate them about the illegal wealth they had allegedly amassed.

Separate notices signed by ACC Deputy Director Shamsul Alam asked the DGHS employees to appear at the ACC head office on October 13, 14, and 15.

ACC Director Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya (public relations) confirmed the matter on Thursday.

The summoned DGHS officials were asked to bring their passport, national identity card, and a copy of their and their wives’ income tax return on the day of their appearance before the anti-graft watchdog.

Of the 12, Assistant Programmer (management information system) Md Ruhul Amin, Chief Assistant Jahangir Hossain Hawlader, and personal assistants Shahjahan Fakir and Abu Sohel were asked to appear on October 13.

Assistant (community clinic wing) Anwar Hossain, Office Assistant Md Hanif, and upper division assistants Md Shahnewaz, and Shariful Islam were summoned to appear on October 14.

Three other office assistants Masud Karim, Md Alauddin and Iqbal Hossain, and Storekeeper Shafayet Hossain Foyez were asked to appear on October 15.

ACC Secretary Muhammad Dilwar Bakht told reporters: “We formed a probe team in 2019 after receiving information that a group of DGHS officials were involved in corruption and irregularities in the health sector.”

ACC is currently investigating allegations of amassing wealth illegally against 45 officials working in various offices under the DGHS.

The commission has so far filed cases against 12 out of these 45 people, according to ACC officials.
