Sylhet Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court framed the charges against Badrul, who was present at the court, after the charge sheet was read out.
“Chief Judicial Magistrate Saifuzzaman heard the charges and issued the order to start the trial,” said Mahfuzur Rahman, additional public prosecutor at the court.
The court set the date of recording testimony on December 5. Thirty-six witnesses, including the victim herself, will testify in the trial.
Defence counsel Sajjadur Rahman submitted a bail petition for the accused on the same day, but the court rejected the appeal.
Sources said the charge sheet was filed on November 8 by Sub-Inspector Harunur Rashid of Shah Poran police station in Sylhet.
The charges were heard and accepted on November 15.

Badrul, a student of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) and a leader of Chhatra League's SUST unit, attacked Khadiza, an honours second-year student at Sylhet Government Women’s College, with a machete when she was on her way back home after taking an exam at Sylhet MC College exam centre on October 3.
Locals rescued a severely wounded Khadiza and took her to Osmani Medical College Hospital, while others apprehended Badrul and handing him over to Shah Paran police station.
Khadiza was later transferred to Square Hospitals Ltd in Dhaka where she underwent treatment until she was released from the hospital and sent to the Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed in Savar on Monday.
Badrul was first suspended, then expelled from the SUST shortly after the attack.
