HC: Investigate if police had link to arson attacks on Santals

[arve url="https://www.youtube.com/embed/UvtsSAoeUA8"/] An HC bench comprising of Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice Krishna Debnath passed the order on Wednesday afternoon, following the filing of a petition seeking orders to trace the culprits of the arson attacks. The court asked the Gaibandha chief judicial magistrate to trace the culprits and file a report regarding the matter within 15 days. Several print and electronic media outlets have published a video of the arson attacks on the houses of the Santals. Earlier, a petition was filed with the HC seeking its directive for forming a judicial commission to investigate the attack on and eviction of Santals from government land. On November 6 and 7, the upazila administration evicted around 600 Santal households from their ancestral land in Sahebganj-Bagda sugarcane farm area. Three Santal men died and many more were injured when they protested the eviction. The eviction was carried out by police, RAB and BGB members and assisted by local Bangalees allegedly loyal to the local ruling Awami League lawmaker.
