Atikur Rahman, associate professor of Mass Communication and Journalism Department at Rajshahi University, was granted bail in connection with a case filed over suicide of Akter Jahan Jolly, a teacher of the same department, on Monday.
Aslam Sarkar, lawyer of Atik, said he was freed on bail from Rajshahi central jail yesterday afternoon following a court's order that granted him bail after a hearing on December 6.
On November 5, police detained Atik on charges of instigating Jolly to commit suicide.
Jolly, an associate professor of MCJ department, was found dead in her room at the teachers quarters on September 9.
In a suicide note found beside the body, she said "No-one is responsible for my death," but made some accusations against her former husband Tanveer Ahmed, also an associate professor of the same department. Her brother filed a case without naming anyone after her death.
On September 22, Tanveer Ahmad, associate professor of journalism department and ex-husband of Aktar Jahan Jolly, a teacher of the department, was suspended from his job on the issue.
