A Chittagong court on Tuesday granted five days of remand to a militant couple arrested from a hideout in Sitakunda.
The couple - Jahirul Islam alias Jashim and his wife Rajia Sultana alias Arjina – were arrested from Amirabad in Sitakunda on March 15.
Both are suspected of being part of the suicide squad of the banned militant outfit New JMB, according to law enforcers.
Sitakunda police had filed four cases against the two under the Anti-Terrorism Act, Explosives Act among others.
Chittagong Court Inspector AHM Moshir Rahman said: “The court of Chittagong Judicial Magistrate Shiblu Kumar Dey granted the five-day remand after the two militants were produced before the court.
Police had asked for 15 days in remand after the end of the 12-day remand session.
Jashim and Arjina were arrested along with weapons and explosives from a house in Sitakunda where they had been hiding. After they were arrested, police raided a neighbouring house which led the death of five, including a child.
