ACC officials have also arrested four more accused in the case. All four of them, including former additional deputy commissioner (revenue) of Cox's Bazar, Zafar Alam, were released on bail.A court has sent the former deputy commissioner (DC) of Cox's Bazar, Md Ruhul Amin, to jail in a case for embezzlement of funds from the Matarbari coal-based power plant project.
Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court Judge Md Touhid Aziz gave the order on Monday, rejecting a bail petition filed by the accused after his surrender before the court.
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Public Prosecutor in Cox's Bazar, Md Siraj Ullah, confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune.
In 2014, the then Land Acquisition Officer (LAO) of the project filed twenty similar cases of embezzlement as he noticed irregularities while processing five cheques to disburse compensation money.
The 20 cases were merged into one case on December 7, 2014.
