Afsan Chowdhury gets anticipatory bail

The High Court has granted four weeks of anticipatory bail to senior journalist and Brac University teacher Afsan Chowdhury. A bench comprising Justice Zeenat Ara and SM Mujibur Rahman granted the bail after a hearing of the bail petition. The anticipatory bail was granted conditionally. Prof Afsan's counsel Asaduzzaman told the Bangla Tribune that he will have to surrender to a judicial court within four weeks. On June 6, Lt Gen (retd) Masud Uddin Chowdhury sued Afsan Chowdhury for defamation under the ICT Act over a Facebook post. On June 11, Lt Gen (retd) Masud's lawyer sent a legal notice to block the Facebook account of the defendant.
