The High Court has issued a ruling asking why the government gazette that sets Tk19.90 lakh as admission fee for MBBS and BDS courses in private medical and dental colleges should not be declared illegal.
A bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Jahangir Hossain passed the order on Tuesday, reports BSS.
The ruling asked for an explanation within four weeks from the health secretary, director general of Directorate General of Health Services of Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council, vice-chancellor of Dhaka University and the board of directors of Dhaka National Medical College.
The court came up with the order following a writ filed by Supreme Court lawyer Md Eunus Ali Akand.
Akand filed the writ on Monday saying the gazette issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on October 26, 2014, is contrary to Article 27 of the Constitution.
The ministry through the gazette had said the government has fixed Tk19.90 lakh as admission fee for MBBS or BDS courses in private medical of dental colleges from 2014-2015.
The students have to pay Tk13.90 lakh as admission fee, Tk1.20 lakh as intern fee and Tk4.80 lakh as tuition fee.
