A Sylhet court on Sunday placed the parents and an uncle of Foyzur Rahman Faizul, who attacked Prof Muhammed Zafar Iqbal of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), on remand for different terms.
Haridas Kumar, judge of Sylhet Metropolitan Magistrate's Court, put Faizul’s father Atiqur Rahman and uncle Fazlur Rahman on a five-day remand, said Sylhet Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner (prosecution) Amulya Kumar, reports UNB.
He said Faizul’s mother Minara Begum was put on a two-day remand after police produced the trio before the court seeking a seven-day remand for each.
On Thursday, the same court had placed Faizul on a 10-day remand in a case filed over the attack.

Noted author and academician Zafar Iqbal came under attack at Mukta Mancha of SUST during the two-day celebration program, “Robofight,” of SUST’s Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department on March 3.
Faizul, who also claimed to be a hawker and a madrasa student, was detained on the spot after he stabbed Zafar Iqbal on the back of his head.
After receiving immediate treatment at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital that day, Zafar Iqbal was airlifted to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka that night following Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s order.
The professor was shifted from the Intensive Care Unit to a cabin there on Wednesday after his physical condition improved.

Faizul later told police that he carried out the attack as he considered Zafar Iqbal “an enemy of Islam.”
His brother, Enamul Hasan, who had fled their family home after the attack, was arrested by police in Gazipur Thursday evening.
Police also seized a tablet, a mobile phone and a memory card from him at the time. These were previously used by Faizul, officials claimed.
Enamul was handed over to Jalalabad police station in Sylhet on Friday.
