Banani rape case: Another accused gets bail

A Dhaka court has granted bail to one of five men accused of raping two private university students in Banani a year ago. Billal Hossain was the car driver of Safat Ahmed, another of the accused who remains in prison over the alleged assault at the Raintree Hotel in Banani on March 28, 2017. Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal 2 Judge Shafiul Azam passed the order granting bail to Billal on Wednesday, and set March 27 for the recording of witness testimonies in the case. The rape investigation started over five weeks after the alleged incident, when one of the victims filed a case at Banani police station on May 6 accusing the five men. Another of the accused, Safat’s security guard  Rahamat Ali, secured his bail from the High Court in January, but Safat and his cohorts - Nayem Ashraf and Sadman Sakif - remain in jail.
