
The High Court on Sunday stayed the elections for Gazipur City Corporation scheduled for May 15.
A bench comprising Justices Naima Haidar and Zafar Ahmed stayed the polls for three months after a writ petition was filed challenging the election. The bench also issued a rule in this regard.
Advocate BM Ilias Kochi represented the writ petition over complications regarding electoral boundaries.

Although initially reports said the polls were stayed for six months, but Deputy Attorney General Mokhlesur Rahman told reporters that it would be stayed for three months.
Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda had announced the election schedule for Gazipur and Khulna city corporations on March 31.
