Two petitions – one seeking acquittal of Oishee Rahman and the other seeking capital punishment for her – have recently been filed with the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court over the killing of her police officer father and housewife mother in 2013.

State counsel Sufia Khatun filed the second petition while defence counsel Sujit Chatarjee Bappi lodged the first one.

On November 12, 2015, Judge Syed Ahmed of the Speedy Trial Tribunal 3 had sentenced Oishee to death for killing her parents.

On December 6 that year, Oishee filed an appeal with the High Court challenging the verdict. On June 5 last year, the High Court commuted her death sentence to life imprisonment after hearing the appeal.

Police had recovered the bodies of Special Branch Inspector Mahfuzur Rahman and his wife Swapna Rahman from their Chamelibagh residence in Dhaka on August 16, 2013.

Later, Oishee surrendered to police confessing to her involvement in the killing.
