High Court has extended Accord’s inspection period 6 more months.

The European RMG buyers’ alliance, Accord, will be able to inspect its factories, as per the High Court ruling on Thursday.

A joint bench of Justices, Syed Refaat Ahmed and Md Salim, extended the inspection time for“Transitional Accord” after a case was filed by Smart Jeans after the Suo moto ruling and a writ petition filed by the Garments Labourers and Employees League.

Barrister Imtiaz Mainul Islam, lawyer for the Garments Labourers and Employees League said: “Accord from now on will work as ‘Transitional Accord’ for the next six months.”

Earlier on April 4, the High Court had ordered a stay on the extension of Accord’s inspection.

Meanwhile, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed said: “The validity of Accord and Alliance will not be extended after due time.”

He said: “Bangladesh no longer needs these two organizations. Their validity will not be extended for due reasons. Activities of such organizations no longer belong in the world.”

Tofail said: “Now Bangladesh has achieved the efficiency to look after the security and work-friendliness of its RMG machinery. The activities of the labour ministry have also extended.”

Tofail further said: “No accidents have yet happened after the unexpected Rana Plaza incident. From now on the Remediation Co-Ordination Cell (RCC) will look after these things regularly.”

“Bangladesh has achieved the efficiency to operate these jobs. Green factories are building up one by one. Factories are now safe and work-friendly.  Our RMG factories are now world class,” said Tofail.

“RMG is the main sector of export. 82% of total exports come from this sector. Our exports will turn into $41.5 billion this year, including the service sector. Bangladesh is now a role model of development.” he added.

Tofail Ahmed said: “There will be no problem with the workers’ salaries, allowances, and bonuses. Labour will get paid in due time.”
